From Shenandoah Roots to Songs with Soul
My journey started in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where the sounds of Hank Williams Sr. and classic country shaped my early years. Like Hank's songs, which took on deeper meaning as I lived through similar experiences, I found that music touched a profound place within my soul, offering strength in tough times.
It wasn't until 1985, during a difficult divorce, that I truly understood the power of songwriting myself. A voice told me, "You're a prisoner of your mind!" In just twenty-five minutes, I poured my pain into my first song, "Prison of My Mind." Seeing those words on paper was a revelation – it set me free from the pain I'd allowed to control me. That moment taught me that songwriting could be a path to mental clarity and healing.
My path has always involved a deep spiritual interest, focused more on self-reflection than preaching. This led to songs like 'Unforgettable Love,' written for God during a spiritual dry spell, and eventually to the development of the K.I.S.S.I.T. guide – Keeping It Scripturally Simple In Truth. My passion is making faith understandable and applicable to everyday life, without the complexity.
Now, at 72, having retired to care for my brother, my focus isn't on stardom, but on sharing the 140+ songs and books born from this journey. Each piece aims to offer a hopeful perspective, connecting with your heart and soul through authentic, real country music.
